Thank you for clarifying the reason that Russia sent in brigades of tanks and slaughter thousands of Ukrainians besides raping their women and kidnapping their children. Now I understand. I thought that because Putin was a great admirer of Peter the Great he wanted to re-create the Soviet Union, which you said did not need to be broken up. I’m sure the people of Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan , and Tajikistan totally agree with you. (Did I miss someone? Maybe, Ukraine?)
Now, where exactly was Russia’s territory and encroached upon? Oh, perhaps you mean, when the people of Ukraine voted for a proponent of democracy, and indicated that they wished for a government which was more western oriented and more in favor of democracy, and, was afraid, for some reason, that Russia had territorial ambitions on it. Terrible that someone was afraid of a Russian dictator, wasn’t it?
Good afternoon and thanks very much for your willingness to comment and bring attention to a very important matter. I’ll answer your queries with one queried answer of my own. IF you were Russian and wished to live in your own homeland in relative peace and quiet what would you do to insure that?
If I were Russian and wanted to live in peace, I would keep my mouth shut, call the war, a special military operation and pray that Putin wouldn’t draft me into fighting this stupid war.
Also, I would be grateful that Putin is using North Koreans to fight in my place.
Actually, I answered your question exactly - if I were Russian - a Russian citizen living in a dictatorship, I might go into survival mode in order to keep myself out of the Gulag.
If you mean how would I, as head of the government, act if wished to live in peace? It's an unfair question, as I value the tenets of democracy, including free speech, and I think peace with my neighbors, and not some Czarist-Stalinist fantasy of domination of my sphere of influence, is a more productive path. I certainly wouldn't make a habit of throwing around my weight and trying to intimidate the smaller countries (e.g., Finland and Sweden) around me, thereby making them look to NATO for protection . I think building economic and cultural ties would lead to a more peaceful outcome.
Think about it - NOBODY was threatening Russia when all this started. Eastern European countries certainly looked westward when the Iron Curtain fell, but the memories of Soviet oppression was still fresh in their memories, but no one had designs on Russian territory.
Now a question for you - does SIC SEMPER TYRANNIS apply to Putin?
Hi again and thanks very much for the replies! I’ll accept your answer, but it is a fact that NATO and the EU have been encroaching, e.g. poking the bear, when it comes to further and further in, territory after territory and nation state after nation state AGAINST Russia. And they’ve been doing it since the 1980s when they promised then Russian Leaders “not one inch will NATO move Westward into your Territory. You have the word of the United States of America and NATO Countries on that,” it was then U. S. Secretary of State James Baker that said that to then Russian Leader Gorbachev. Where I come from your word is your bond, and when you break your word you break your bond, thus all bets are off! It makes no sense whatsoever as to why NATO and the EU would be oh so beside themselves with Russia’s actions in Ukraine. DEO VINDICE ET SIC SEMPER TYRANNIS is Old World Latin for God is my Vindicator thus always to Tyrants. And it applies to anyone who believes in God and the Vanquishing of Tyranny and those who portend it.

Okay. But you still didn’t answer my query. In fact you skirted it entirely with something else in answer that we are not even talking about.

A very powerful explanation that folks do not wish to confront
Agreed my friend! They don’t seem to want to do that. They just want to continue on the pattern of encroachment.
Sorry for the delayed response.... But folks just have to realize they will have to work harder.
