I do not know you or your family but I am sorry for your loss. It sounds like your mom was a special person. I am a funeral director, and I am not wanting your business, but I want to ask if you have made preparations like a prepaid funeral contract to protect your assets and make things easier on your survivors. Please talk to your children or those who would be responsible for making your funeral arrangements so they know what you want and if you have a prepaid contract and or life insurance and what companies those are with.

Good evening Jeff and thanks very much for your reply and your interests. Sir, I’ll be completely honest things are still not good between my family and I. All I can do is fast and pray. And leave the rest to God. With that said though my Wife, Florha, and I have discussed at length through the many years that we’ve been together now about the future, and what would or could, potentially, happen if one or both of us dies suddenly. I have never heard tell of what you speak, and wouldn’t mind at all hearing more from you about it, and go from there. Sound good?

I am a funeral director in Texas, so I do not know what is available in other states or nations, but a prepaid funeral contract, sometimes referred to as a preneed funeral contract, is a contract where you pick out and pay for most if not all of your funeral while you are still alive. My company sells trust funded and insurance funded contracts but I do not know anything about the insurance funded so I do not sell those. In Texas Trust funded contracts are regulated by the Texas Department of Banking. For all contracts, if the funeral home is sold or goes out of business, the contracts are guaranteed.

The only time there are additional expenses at the time of death are if the survivors add something to it, or there is a section of non guaranteed items that includes paying a preacher, musicians, newspaper obituaries, obituaries, flowers from a florist that is not owned by the funeral home, the grave digger if they are not contracted with the funeral home and some other things that nobody has added to a contract that I have seen.

If you pick a casket that is no longer available, we substitute the current one that matches the specs of the selected casket as closely as possible for no additional charge because the caskets are regular merchandise.

I know other states have preneed contracts, but I only know Texas law. I hope this helps. I will be unavailable for up to two months because I am having surgery on February 28 so if you have questions, either write back soon or there will be a delay in my response.

I like prepaid contracts, because the decisions are made when everyone has a clear mind and they prevent family members from making bad decisions when they are grieving.
