THE TECHNOLOGY FACTOR IN TEXAS…SAM WALTON AND HIS FAMILY, WALMART, BOOST MOBILE AND NOKIA MADE IN VIETNAM PHONES…
It's not been a year yet since my family and I relocated from our home with my late parents in Paducah, KY. USA to right here where we are now in Dallas, TX. USA and already my Boost Mobile Walmart Store Brand Nokia Phone from Vietnam has had it!
And it's had it because of the enticement of and the overloading of online applications.
The phone itself is; overworked, overwhelmed and cheaply made by the People's Republic of Vietnam.
And I know and I get for much more obvious reasons why that is. At least the publicly known reasons why, BUT what I refuse to accept are those reasons and the much more privately known reasons courtesy of The Sam Walton Family.
CHARLIE CHEATED, BUT I'M THE BAD GUY?!
Now, before we go any further into today's newsletter I think it only fair to fully disclose that a long, long time ago one of the first jobs that I ever had was working for Walmart and the Sam Walton Family here. I worked there on two separate and distinct occasions. The first was in the Summer of 1996 after I graduated high school in late May/early June of that year. Besides working for my late father's general contractor and handyman business from a very early age until I turned 16 I was employed at Shoney's Restaurant, for a time, in my early teen years in the 1990s.
The second time that I worked there was in the late 1990s and early 2000s. But I got hurt on the job then. I worked in store maintenance at the time and slipped and fell in floor stripper because my old boss, at the time, Charlie Ruby -- who's since become a gunsmith at this outdoor store here -- and I, couple other guys on the floor maintenance crew, were stripping and waxing a portion of the store floor in front of the Candy Wall when I slipped and fell in floor stripper and broke my right hip and tailbone.
My biggest mistake was in thinking that Walmart, nay the Sam Walton Family, would give more than two tinkers’ darns about a loyal and model employee not unlike myself and tend to me through the advent of surgical and rehabilitation treatment via insurance. Instead, I ended up having to file for a Workmans' Compensation Claim because I had sustained an on-the-job-injury and Walmart flatly refused to pay the freight. And an even bigger mistake on my part was for having believed that in the first place when it comes to Walmart and Worker's Comp Claims. They're horrible folks! DON'T believe the hype.
Needless to say it didn't end well, and instead of a win-win all the way around for everyone involved I ended up resigning and those who were in charge at 0491 were rewarded by the company and area management and, eventually, moved on to bigger and better things.
What really got me though was what happened to my old boss Charlie Ruby a few years after I left. Call it a partial blessing in disguise. Charlie Ruby, it started out I liked him well enough and even though he was my most immediate Supervisor he was really more like a glorified ring leader than an actual boss which'll speak to my point about him here today, was a real mess.
Charlie, in all his infinite wisdom is a stone slacker. He couldn't hit two licks worth of an honest day's work to save his soul! Yet he was somehow a Supervisor of an Overnight Cleaning Crew for Walmart Store #0491 in Paducah, KY. USA. Whatta the odds right?
So going into this floor stripper accident that I had in the Summer of 2000 he and I had been at odds about a few things, mostly, just how it was that he came to be the Boss Man without ANY formal experience in Janitorial Work.
Folks say, “well how hard can it be?”
Well, if you're trained in and came up in the Industrial Maintenance Field as Charlie did then swinging a mop and operating a floor scrubber and buffer in the middle of the night is gonna seem like a downgrade in pay and job responsibilities as well as a surefire case for bordum.
In fact so bored was ole Charlie, though I never actually witnessed it, even though I had my sinking suspicions -- and was later confirmed by several ex coworkers of mine -- that Charlie would catch cat naps in store offices and in the areas where product was stored only to be stocked later in the front of the store for customers to purchase at checkout.
For this and an albeit BRIEF sexual interlude with a female cash office auditor, and the padding of his hours with the help of his cash office girlfriend, the then store manager, one Mark Propes, promptly dismissed Mr. Ruby with great prejudice on 15 August 2013.
They drive me nuts because I filed a work comp claim because I got hurt on the job doing my job for them, BUT they just crap can Ruby for catnapping on the job and padding his hours.
How fair is that?
As luck would have it though and by way of mutual friends and outdoor interests Charlie got a job as a gunsmith at Paducah's Shooter Supply where he's been since about 2014 or so. Hopefully he's not catnapping on the job, stealing hours and stealing money from the company 🤞.
So there's that.
IT'S THE GENERAL PRINCIPLES OF THE THING … MADE IN THE USA!
But I'm also mad at Nokia and then Boost Mobile as well as The People's Republic of Vietnam for; producing, marketing and selling such cheap and god-awful cellphones!
Because there's ZERO EXCUSE for this accept that the rich wanna stay rich and get richer still while doing it! Screw the poor, working-class stiffs that just wanna halfway decent cellphone and cellular service, and overall value for themselves and their hard-earned money.
What has happened to Walmart and, indeed, The Sam Walton Family?
What has happened to Boost Mobile and Nokia itself? Is it really far more profitable to peddle the wares of communist made products than American made ones?
Additionally, is it really such a SIN anymore for things to be Made in the USA?
It didn't used to be a problem for Sam and Bud Walton, or did it!?
Walmart like the Walton Family, apparently, sees more financial benefits in in as many products, goods and services as can be made overseas than right here in the good ole USA.
It is, TRULY, how the rich stay rich and the poor stay pooer still. And the Sam Walton Family members stay that way because of the cheap labor and the shoddy construction! Why pay someone like Texas Instruments lets say or some other U. S.--based Technology Companies average workers the $15 to $25 an hour to; build/make and sell quality cellphones and computers right here in America or even U. S.--based online application companies to fill those Made in the USA phones to overflowing and not run um down one lick or crash um for even half an instance just because you taped an app?
Oh no, no, no! It's far more easier, much more profitable for Walmart, Boost Mobile and Nokia itself to go better than halfway around the World to some Sweatshop in Vietnam and a Worker there, at barely pennies on the dollar I might add, to build and peddle those cheap phones and computers like mad. No sweat! Wally World and Boost Mobile got it from here buy um up you All-American Suckers You!
Folks ask, “well don't you have a receipt, didn't you get a warranty for your phone when you bought it!?”
Yes, yes I did in answer to your questions. From good ole Walmart Store #0265 in Terrell, TX. USA under the hot July/August of last year sun. Yes indeed. The young lady that sold me the phone in the first place was; bright, knowledgeable and personable. Eager to receive my business and direct me accordingly. I even did an online Google review, I gave them a five ⭐star raiting! And I put the young lady in question in for an atta-girl with the in-house Walmart Survey. She wholeheartedly deserved it! No questions asked.
“So what's the problem then,” you might be asking? “Take your phone, your receipt and warranty and get a new phone,” you might further exclaim!
The problem is that it's the general principal of the thing. That's what!
The general principles.
Because I shouldn't have to and you shouldn't have to be as seed begging for bread! Especially when it comes to a cell phone or some other form of technology. It's ridiculous and highly unnecessary. The Sam Walton Family can afford the forefit of a bit of profits for Made in the USA; products, goods and services. They can and they should! Quit being so damned selfish because you people will remain some of the richest people in the World. Today. Tomorrow. And always.
