The Last Dance. All about Michael Jordan OR all about that Chicago Bulls Championships' Team?
Craig Hodges, Scottie Pippen say differently, and maybe Isaiah Thomas wasn't too far off, after all, when it comes to His Airness?
I'm a sucker for ALL THINGS the Chicago Bulls and Michael Jordan. Even now! I still can’t get enough at nearly 50 years of age. I love the game of basketball. Michael Jordan, Magic Johnson and Larry Bird are chiefly responsible for the reasons WHY.
Magic Johnson and Larry Bird fought WARS on the basketball court for games and for championships. Michael Jordan brought the game of basketball from out the blood sport mentality that it was — the days of ‘no blood, no foul’ — to professional poetry in motion. A Gentlemen’s Game like Golf. Minus, of course, that whole Basket Brawl, aka 'Malice at the Palace', in 2004. Remember?
Not that Magic and Bird weren’t gentlemen in their days, but Jordan brought a style and a class that’s seldom seen but often heard from to this day.
MJ is a hero of mine! And that’s what I am most confused about. The more and more I hear what guys like Isiah Thomas have to say and continue to say about Michael and the more stories that I see and read like this and this. The more that I have to wonder despite the Air of his Airness maybe just maybe my HERO ain’t all that he’s cracked up to be after all!?
And its sad really. Because I came up in that time and era. And Michael Jordan was absolutely everything to me. As he was and still is for a lot of people. So, naturally, I had the man on a pedestal. The Games. The Championships. The MVPs. The scoring titles. That USA Men's Basketball Dream Team from 1992. He was and is MJ. The Man! He’s the best, right!? Period.
But whenever you hear that your heroes are human, make mistakes and are fatally flawed the more you start to say, “well maybe guys like Horace Grant and Isiah Thomas aren't that far off about MJ after all"!? Shucks!
I think to about guys like Mahmoud Abdul-Rauf who openly challenged, without actually saying a word; the greatness, the dominance of Michael Jordan on the basketball court in not only high school but through college and well into the NBA and their careers there. In fact one of the reasons RAUF has been formally BANNED from the NBA is because of Michael Jordan and Rauf's own religious beliefs and personal philosophy and positions on this World.
Had Rauf not converted to Islam and not been against the constant WARS in and throughout the Greater Middle East, particularly at that time, by the American CIA and Others he would STILL be playing in the National Basketball Association. Because he's STILL got it like that when it comes to the Game of Basketball! Maybe, I need new heroes? New outlooks and aspirations on life, perhaps?
Maybe I’ve been going about this hero-worship thing all wrong?
I mean, I’m not a Muslim. And have no plans to convert, but for guys like Rauf and Craig Hodges their beliefs, their faith, is absolutely everything to them! Second only is Family and after that Friends and Community. What can we do to better ourselves and each other, all the time and at a constant? And what's wrong with that exactly?
Folks say, “you’re trashing MJ!” “You’re trashing MJ!” “Quit that!” “Stop that!” “We’ll oust you.” Etc. Etc. So on and so forth.
Am I really? Or am I just speaking truth to power? Holding those folks in authority over us to accountability. I’ve got no truck with Mahmoud Abdul-Rauf, Craig Hodges or Scottie Pippen! My truck lies with MY HERO Michael Jordan. And for a guy who brought; class, style, grace and finesse to the game of professional basketball for so many years, who’s been idolized and hero worshipped the world over he owes us a far better explanation of things than just, “The Last Dance”. Sorry not sorry he does ladies and gentlemen!
For instance, IF I could sit down, one on one with MJ and chat, I’d ask him directly and frankly, are you really the prick everyone says that you are!?
Then I’d ask him to immediately silence his critiques. Starting with Isaiah Thomas. Then for him to work his way down the 'Shit Lists' of who’s people you belong on. He’s yet to do that! WHY not dispel the rumors? Dispense, mightily, with the BULLSHIT. Clean and clear the Air! For God sakes Man you’re a Founding Father of Modern-Day Basketball! You owe us! You owe your fans a full-throated explanation. Because that drip, drip, drip that started with Isiah Thomas and keeps rolling on with Scottie Pippen, Craig Hodges and Others is now a running river. You want an ocean next? I doubt even his Airness could take on that much water. I sure as hell couldn’t!
ITS PAST TIME FOR MJ TO COME CLEAN.
DEO VINDICE ET SIC SEMPER TYRANNIS!!!
